What is QEPTR?
QEPTR is an iOS App that lets you capture Barcodes and QR-Codes and post a video on the code. Hereby overwriting the initial purpose of the code and giving it a new meaning, your meaning and message! Other people using QEPTR can discover your message and reply to it. Together, we will create amazing video content queues on codes worldwide.
What is required to use QEPTR?
Being an iOS App, QEPTR requires an iOS device. It is designed for iPhone, but will work on iPad as well. Furthermore a Google Account is required, since QEPTR uses YouTube as a video hosting platform – you will also need to grant QEPTR the rights to add videos to YouTube on your behalf (videos will not be listed publicly!). Additionally, there are some rights on iOS level that you might want to provide to QEPTR. ‘Location‘ to be able to match location based codes, ‘Camera‘ to, well, record a video and ‘Push Notifications‘ in order to receive a notification every time a new video is added to a queue you are involved in.
What is a video queue?
When you use QEPTR to scan a code and post a video other users can discover your video by scanning the same code, finding your video on a location bound code nearby or simply looking it up in popular codes. Once a second video is added to your initial post, a video queue is created. Users are able to watch the queue videos one by one via QEPTR, basically queues are auto play so the complete queue will play until it is finished. Alternatively users can flip left and right to move forth and back within the queue until they find a video title they like to watch. Create your queue now!
Location bound or Independent?
What about that location bound vs. independent thing – basically, it is up to you if you want to mark a code as independent of a location or as bound to a location. The difference is that the video queue for independent codes has no fixed location and that all users worldwide that scan the same code, e.g. on a bottle of beer or a pack of cigarettes (man that sounds healthy), will contribute video content to the same queue. You can also mark a code on a bottle of beer in your favorite pub as location bound which implies that all users scanning this code on the beer in your favorite pub will be on the queue at the location of the pub. So you will have your very own private beer at pub queue which is more intimate than a worldwide contribution. Now that you know the difference, choose wisely and enjoy!
Will the video be listed publicly?
Since QEPTR uses YouTube as a hosting service you might wonder who can see you videos, thinking they might be listed publicly on YouTube for all the world to discover. No, that is not the case! QEPTR posts the videos to YouTube with the setting ‘not listed’ which means only users that have the link to the video can access it. This allows users to also share the video off QEPTR by accessing their YouTube account and sending the link to the video e.g. via email to friends that do not use the QEPTR app, but hell, who does not use QEPTR?
